We started breeding Netherland Dwarfs in black & tan in 2001 and have been working to improve the type in them since. They originated with a Tan rabbit and a Netherland Dwarf being bred together and worked at to keep the colour and get the Dwarf type. This is Bruach, who is a 3 year old buck in this photo but he has lost his tanning as he has got older. He is our stud buck.
Louise is one of of our brood does and daughter of Bruach. Her mother was also a black and tan so hopefully we will get litters of black and tans from them.
This photo shows the belly colour of the tan Dwarf. This kit is only 4 weeks old and the tanning isn't as rich as it should be but given time it should get richer. The baby coat is very fluffy and once the adult coat comes through the colour will improve. Both parents of this kit are tans and this little one looks quite good at the moment.
We were introduced to some Dutch fanciers when they came across to show at Stafford in 2007 and we helped start them up with blue eyed white Polish and in return we were lucky enough to get a pair of tan Dwarfs from a top stud across in Holland. We are now using both the buck and doe to try to improve on what we have in the shed already. We do have our first litter and the babies are showing very rich tanning, hopefully the type will be good too.
